Counselee Testimonials

Here are a few testimonials from clients of OCC.

The Lord has used Occoquan Counseling Center to impact our marriage. Not only have we been taught Biblical tools and behaviors that ought to exist in a healthy, God-honoring marriage and family, but more importantly, we have been held accountable to implement these.

In His Word, God urges us to bear one another’s burdens and commands the older men/women to teach the younger men/women. Both of those are accomplished through the biblical counseling at OCC. Our burdens weren’t dismissed, but were fleshed out and brought to light. Then we were taught how to put off sinful, self-centered actions, habits and motives and put on selfless, Christ-centered actions, habits and motives. We were then held Accountable to continue to be transformed by the Word.

Only God can change hearts and minds by His Word and His Spirit. But the counseling we have received through OCC has enabled His Word and His Spirit to begin to do the changing He desired, and we so desperately needed. We are extremely grateful for this ministry.

I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in April of 2010 and during this time I was in secular counseling. At the end of every session I was left with the feeling, “why do I do the things I do?” I felt empty. After being discharged from the Marine Corps, I stopped counseling. I returned home and started college. As things began to fall apart in my life again, I approached the admissions counselor to see if they could recommend a counseling center. I was the first student to receive a flyer for Occoquan Bible Counseling. At first I was skeptical as I had the belief that biblical counseling was a person who just sat behind a desk and passed off bible verses to solve life’s problems. I was told to give it a chance, and I did. Biblical counseling is not a person sitting behind a desk passing scriptures to you, but a reciprocal relationship between the counselor and client to reestablish a relationship with God by recognizing how our sinful nature affects our life and relationships with others while becoming more Christ-like.  I have a new found love for God and each day I strive to improve my relationships with family and friends.

“I’m very thankful for all of the  help and counsel I received.  Every day I think about what I was taught.  Now I’m able to share God’s love in a way that connects with people, because I truly believe that He loves me.”

Verse of the Day

[A Church Divided Over Leaders] I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. — 1 Corinthians 1:10 (NIV)
